I've been coming to Antlers for 10 years now and am just getting around to write this review.
Antler's is a real blast from the past and one of the few truly authentic neighborhood bars left in the Bay Area. The bar itself dates back to the 1890s and to a Pinolean, who has typically lived in Pinole most of their lives and who are very proud of their rich Native American, Spanish and settler history, Antlers is at the center of their community. The folks that frequent Antlers are salt of the earth, working class regular folk that like to go and shoot the breeze with Dave, the bartender/ owner and maybe run into an old friend or two.
On a typical night at the bar you might meet a rancher from Briones, a rigging technician who works at The Warfield in SF or an elderly gentleman who recently lost his wife of 50 years and hadnt gotten out of the house in several months. There are alot of young 20 something women, from the area, showing up lately mixing it up with the regulars and enjoying the great lineup of live music put together by Dave, a few times a week.
Their draft beer selection isn't bad either and there aren't many places that only charge $6.00/pint. -

Got a totally racist vibe walking up to the entrance of this place. Usually I'm into breaking the color barrier, however this place didn't seem or feel inviting at all. It's 2019 and still???? I got that "go round back and get your food to go" vibe. Ugh! It's a bar so I was like Nah not for me!
I've heard about this "behavior" in Pinole, but haven't personally experienced it until now. They advertise NY steak for $10 and I was game, but the looks we received at the entrance I instantly changed my mind. If I was maybe with more people or had a white friend with me...
I would say do better, but there's much better everything - people, vibes, and food other places. -

I think folks give it 3 stars because they are judging Antlers by modern suburban TV standards. It is a throw back and that is what makes it so great. I noticed all different colors of people in attendance the one night I visited this place. I am thinking about visiting right now. $5 tacos were great and alot of food. The live music by a 40 something male with long hair and a hat was better than expected. There is wi-fi, card games, and lots of space here. The bartender had a poker face but he was a quick draw on the drinks. Most bars are becoming corporation-owned. Enjoy this gem while you can. Everyone was friendly and I was a middle aged scruffy stranger in bad shorts with fat legs.

I doubt this being the type of place that reads yelp reviews, likely still has an AOL address. Some would say that old fashioned-ness is nostalgic. The prices are still very much 2019 but the ambiance of this boomer bar takes you right back to that shady dive on the disenfranchised side of town your straight friends brought you to for cheap drinks when you were in college. Pool table, jukebox, apathetic bartender, near comatose alcoholic weaving to and fro on his barstool. I had a friend in town and everything around Hercules was closed for cocktails except this gem. Lucky for us there was a band playing, fronted by a faded flower known as Miss Kitty who belted out classics like Mustang Sally in between cigarette breaks on the sidewalk. We managed to get decently cocktailed, so purpose served, but I believe I'm gonna have to miss the return trip to the Antler Tavern. One time was enough for this lifetime.
